Elements of Web Design

Setting up a web page on immigrant resources for those looking to get their Green Card from the USCIS?  You might wish to consider how web design impacts the look and feel of your site, because the first impression sets the tone.  Too harsh – while professional – can deaden the feeling of helpfulness that such a service related site needs to have.  Too soft – which can be wonderful for making someone feel cozy and accepted – is not good for building credibility.   So how do you balance the elements of the two sides to give you a professional yet welcoming web page?  This is the realm of web design.

Good web design begins with planning. Text, images, and media are but part of it.  Often time interactive elements are added to the basic site to make it more engaging. How is this pulled together though?  Designers use several languages to communicate to web browsers what they should display.  These languages are called markup language collectively. HTML is used to give a web page structure.  CSS is used to enhance presentation of various elements within the structure.  JavaScript and Flash are used to make the page more interactive.

Designing a web sire begins with conceptualizing what is desired on it.  This can involve many or few pages that are linked together with hyperlinks. In planning the site each page is defined for what it should display and linked to the other pages that make up the site.  Many basic elements can be carried from one page to another, including layout and style of the text or images.  Often headers, footers, and background will remain the same throughout the site design.

Basic structure is defined by code written in HTML and CSS.  These two languages allow a designer to not only spot and correct problems easily but make edits to the pages as needed to reflect new content or material. HTML forms the background for the CSS, and CSS simplifies the process of authoring new content and maintaining the site’s structure. CSS enables the webmaster to alter an element once and apply that change across the entire site.

More interactive elements are considered “Web 2.0”, although this term is subject to some controversy.  If you have a service related site that focuses on user-centered design, however, some may call it a web 2.0 site. Social media hubs, blogs, forums, and other interactive elements have altered how the web is used. These sites tend to create user-centered communities. Of course if you are offering something like  immigrant resources for those trying to get their Green Card from the USCIS then you would have the option of offering either a static page with information or an interactive self help community.  In some ways offering a forum makes for good professional sense, if only because many questions can be handled and moderator staff that is knowledgeable about topics can interject to ensure valid information is made offered to those who need it.

Does Your Website Show the True You?

We all are aware that we only get one chance to make a good first impression. That is why we all do what we can to get ready when we are going out to meet people for the first time. And when we are readying ourselves for that first date with someone that might be the right one for us we manage to often take hours to make sure everything is perfect before we leave the house. We dress for success when we go for a job interview because it might be the chance to land that once in a lifetime job we have been after forever.

So why is it that when we put ourselves on the Internet that things get sloppy? Look at almost anyone’s Face book or My Space page and you’ll see what I mean. Pictures of us partying and having a good time with friends and family abound. But guess what? Anyone could see that. This could even be a perspective soul mate or employer. So why do we take less than prudent measures to look decent?

Person and business websites are the same idea. People are likely to visit them looking for what you have to offer and if what they see turns them off they can just as easily navigate to another website that is more to their liking.

All of this boils down to the fact that when you look at your web presence you need to be sure that what you are seeing is what you want the rest of the world to see when they find that page.

People searching the web may come across your page by accident. People looking to get their Green card Renewal taken care of or in search of US immigration forms are not going to understand why your website looks terrible. They have yet to take the US citizenship exam and what you are showing them might be totally foreign to them in many ways and not just in language.

SO the best advice that can be given here is that every time you visit your web area. Whether that is a personal or business website or a social networking area, you need to look at it with fresh eyes. I am betting that if you have a website or networking page and you were to go there everyday and look at it with a different mindset, that you would likely find something that you would chance almost every time that you visit it.

The reason behind that is that websites are rather static. You put something up there and it stays. The problem is that humans are not static. We constantly change and evolve and the result is that we need to put that resolve into our web areas and make them more of a three dimensional extension of the being that we are rather than a one dimensional representation of who we think we are. If you can do that, then you will have a great website that shows the true you.

How Web Design can Save Your Business

There are many ways a company can fail by problems with the Internet. Millions of online businesses fail every year online while millions of others start up. If you are thinking about shutting down your online business there are many things a web design company can do for you to help you pick the business back up and succeed.

Many businesses often fail because they have the wrong customers coming to see them. If they have an Internet business selling Christmas trees and they are driving traffic to people who are looking for coffee beans. Things like this can happen when the wrong content is on a website. Many businesses often have the incorrect content and attract customers that are not interested in the products and services offered. A web design company can provide the proper content so you can sell your artificial Christmas trees. The traffic coming to your site will be interested in your products and services rather than something else. If you find you have a large amount of traffic to your site and they don’t often stick around long enough to purchase anything you might be attracting the wrong traffic. A web design company can help you with bringing in the right traffic or researching why no one is sticking around. They can help you maintain traffic to your site.

If you have a bad ranking online it could be affecting your business. A poor online rank can be the reason why you haven’t sold a Christmas wreath in a few months. Many people who purchase and shop online pay attention to the rank of an online business. The rank of an online company shows that a company is successful and has a lot of traffic. It shows a customer that a business is busy and it also builds a trust and integrity for the online world.

If you find customers won’t stick around with your website but for only a few seconds it could mean that something else is wrong. A site with broken links or a site that doesn’t actually work can be the failure of an Internet business. A web design company can fix any problems you might have on your site that would be a deterrent to the customers. A site that doesn’t function correctly is the easiest way to lose customers online. If your site works all the way up to the shopping cart and then users are unable to actually make a purchase this is a good way to lose business and they will not return.

If you find you are failing on the Internet and you need some assistance or you are thinking about shutting the doors to your company you should consider hiring a web design company. A web design company can completely redesign your site so it works and functions properly. They know what the users want to see when they are online and they know how to attract the customers so they will stick around and spend money. Before you close the doors you might want to consider hiring a company to help you.
